We know that wheat makes flour and flour makes bread, but that’s not the only thing wheat makes. If the cold winter days are keeping you and your kids inside, and you’re looking for an easy way to occupy them, follow these simple instructions to make your own homemade play-dough for hours of fun!

Materials

  • Bowl
  • 1 cup cold water
  • 1 cup salt
  • 2 teaspoons vegetable oil
  • Tempera paint, food coloring or Kool-Aid powder
  • 3 cups flour
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch

Directions

  1. In bowl, mix water, salt, oil, and enough tempera paint, food coloring, or Kool-Aid powder to make a bright color.
  2. Gradually add flour and cornstarch until the mixture reaches the consistency of bread dough.
  3. Store covered.
  4. PLAY!

Helpful tips

  • Add glitter in the dough mixture to make it even more exciting.
  • Make sure to keep your play dough covered after playtime is over to keep it fresh and ready for fun.
